Antibiotics are required to be taken ONE HOUR prior to any appointment that creates bleeding. The antibiotic used depends on your allergic tendencies.
Given the potential adverse outcomes and cost of treating an infected joint replacement, the (American Association of Orthopedic Surgeons) recommends that clinicians consider antibiotic prophylaxis for all total joint replacement patients prior to any invasive procedure that may cause bacteremia.
